Bioengineering congratulates our key account and valuable partner Biocon Biologics, whose B3 building, which houses India’s largest state-of-the-art mAbs drug substance facility, was recently recognized at the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering’s Facility of the Year Awards with an honourable mention for Facility Integration, Social Impact and Operational Excellence, a first for any Indian biopharmaceutical company. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the entire facility was completed on schedule and within budget, all while focusing on sustainability, reducing environmental impact and setting a new standard in safety with zero lost time incidents over 3 million labour hours. With multiple 6KL production bioreactors, a 170,500 square foot manufacturing area and a 144,000 square foot lab area, the facility is one of the largest biologics manufacturing facilities in India. The modular production-scale facility, which is optimized to reduce operational expenses and a robust management of the supply chain, will enable Biocon to increase patients access to life-saving medicines across the globe, including highly regulated markets in the US and Europe.
